Un'Goro Crater - scouting report
The expedition to gather and investigate the existence of possibly sympathetic crystals in Un'Goro Crater is coming up soon. I have taken the liberty to scout the area in advance in hopes of enlightening that expedition as well as highlighting any possible dangers and places of interest found therein. The exploration of the Crater was do mostly by air with some short landings for gathering visual aids with my s.e.l.f.i.e. camera. Un'Goro crater is a hot, humid place with hostile fauna -and- flora though most can be avoided as they tend to keep clear territories. It is a rich environnement with ample ressources (minerals, herbs, leather, fish etc.). The fastest way to reach the Crater is to use the portal to uldum found in Stormwind and fly directly North.

Points of Interest:
- There is a large Silithid nest in the South of the Crater. The bugs are territorial. I did not explore the nests further.
- There is an active volcano directly in the center of the Crater.
- Marshal's Stand is a refuge with flight connections to other sites and more civilized settlements. It is located South-East of the volcano. A gnome at the Refuge, J.D. Collie is interested in studying the crystals.
- Another refuge just North-West in the volcano is Mossy Pile. It also has flight connections. Mostly inhabited by goblins.
- Lakkari Tar Pits in the North of the crater. There are creatures that seem to guard them for some reason. I'm not sure if they are plant or animal, both or neither.
- Fungal Rock is a gorilla den just North-East of the tar pits.
- There are hot springs located West in the Cater.
- There are large and likely ancient strustures built at the top of the Crater to the East and North. I did not explore either of them.
- The bones of some gigantic creature which does not seem to be of draconic origin are located East in the Crater.
- Large pylons topped with a crystal are located directly East, North and West in the Crater. There purpose is unclear though I seem to recall stories about how they respond to the smaller ones located around the Crater.
- A cave located North West in the Crater holds crystal formations which are the subject of the expedition. These larger crystals likely require proper tools or methods to extract. I was only able to try picking up crystals from the smaller formations located around the Crater. The crystals seem to exist in four colors: Red, Yellow, Green and Blue. The smaller formations can be found to the South West, North West, North East and South East, respectively.
Dangers and hostiles in the Crater:
The Crater is home to many different types of lizard-like creatures. My contact in the Explorer's League listed them as Ravasaurs, diametrodons, pteradons, stegodons and the very large Devilsaurs.
There are also aggressive plant life, oozes, elementals (fire and steam) as well as more mundane gorillas near Fungal Rock. Stone Guardians inhabit the crystal cave but are not aggressive.
Ressources in the Crater:
Minerals:
- Thorium
- Gold
- Truesilver
- Mithril
Herbs (not seen, this information was based on my adoptive mother's own herbalism journals which are dated ten years ago):
- Sungrass
- Blindweed (one of the rare places to find some)
- Dreamfoil
- Golden Sansam
- Ghost Mushrooms (Fungal Rock)
- Mountain Silversage
- Tarblossom (no alchemical use noted)
Leather:
- Devilsaur Leather
- Most of the lizard-like creatures can be skinned as well for more mundane leathers.
Fish:
- Redgill
- Sagefish
- Whistescale Salmon
- Nightfin Snapper (night only)
- Sunscale Salmon (day only)
